Company history

Nippon Express Company, Ltd. was founded in 1872 under the name of Moto Kaisha Riku. In 1937 it was re-established as a semi-governmental transportation company.

In1950 Nippon Express is no longer a government company and it became private.

Thus, for over a century, Nippon Express has played a vital role in the economical development and improvement in people's quality of life, leading the Japanese shipping industry. In order to meet the increasing demand on the international carriage of Japanese companies, Nippon Express created its own global network in 1958 and opened its first representative office in New York.

In 1988, Nippon Express de España S.A. was founded in Spain, establishing Head Quarters in Madrid. It became the subsidiary number twenty-first within the group. At the same time, the Delegation of Barcelona Branch was established.

Throughout this period, several branches have been opened in Spain in order to cover the entire national transport market. Currently there are offices at Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Malaga.

In the year 2000, Nippon Express Portugal was founded with Nippon Express of Spain S.A.'s capital, becoming a subsidiary company, owning offices in Lisbon and Oporto. Currently Nippon Express Portugal is a company of the group belonging to the European Division of Nippon Express.
